The Transportation Trust Fund pays for transportation construction and maintenance across the state. In their budget proposal the House pulls $423 million from the “trust” fund, which is fueled by a small portion of the gas tax consumers pay on each gallon of fuel purchased (12 cents of 53 cents per gallon total). Taking these monies out of the State Transportation Trust Fund and putting them into the state’s General Revenue Fund is breaking a promise of the trust fund and turning these dollars from a “user fee” to a general tax. read more
